How to Shoot and Edit a Video

Updated: Jul 6, 2020

One of the requirements to enter the Miss Serbian Diaspora 2020 competition is to submit a personal video. It should reflect the values and ideas in your Personal Statement, or, it can be a fun, personal insight into a "day-in-the-life" of you. The end result should be anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes in length. We don't expect perfection. Your smartphone will do the trick.

You can edit on your mobile phone using the super easy (and free) Movavi editing tool or whatever other means you wish. Click here to watch a Movavi instructional video.

Download Movavi phone app here. But, don't feel married to this app. There are plenty of other ones out there and your PC or MAC likely has a video editor installed among your other programs.

Write Out What You Want to Say

“What is your name? Where is your family from? What are you studying in school? Who is the person you admire most in history? Who are your everyday heroes? What are you thankful for? . . .and whatever else comes to mind.”

Keep it Under 10 Minutes

You can follow your Personal Statement or create something completely new. We leave it to you. The only thing we ask is that you give us more than 2 minutes.

Save it Using your First and Last Name

“Be original, show off your style, and tell your story.”

Once your application has been accepted, you will get a Welcome Letter,

The Welcome Letter will provide you with an access code to upload code to YouTube mobile. Alternatively, we will also provide you with a Dropbox link where you may upload your personal video and other items.

Know that the one paragraph biography will be used on our site when we make your video live. Remember to tag your video with your assigned personal hashtag (also to be provided in your welcome letter).

Get Inspired

Before you get started, you might want to talk this over with your BFF, your family or simply spend a bit of time in thought. You want to share the "real" you with us!
